Lily ponds & waterlilies in bloom beautiful to behold
Lily ponds (some spell it water lilly ponds) once seen are never forgotten. One of the most famous of all water lily ponds is in the Pampelmous water gardens in Mauritius. It's time to get your own lily ponds.
The

for planting.
Water lily ponds are easy to build since they do not like running water and therefore waterfalls are normally not installed. Water lily ponds also need somewhat deeper water. Since water lily ponds are normally planted with other water plants that enjoy different levels of planting then liner ponds designs are ideal.
Lily ponds using liner are able to be designed to suit larger volumes and irregular or regular shapes with as many planting shelves as required. Calculating irregular shaped ponds is easily achieved using the FREE pond calculators.
To create water lily ponds using pond liners simply dig the hole to suit your requirements. Remember to include all the planting shelves you want and vary their widths as well as depths.
Once the hole for your lily ponds is complete ensure the base is covered with newspaper, fine sand, old carpet or similar materials to prevent sharp stones coming into contact with the rubber or plastic material.
Refer to the page on pond liners to calculate size of pond liner required to give you the correct size lily ponds. Once the liner has been laid the pond edging would need to be finished off in your preferred way using stone, slate, brick or even wood. When you are ready to plant your lily ponds just follow the links above.
Water lilies and similar species root strongly into the mud at the bottom of the pond. They have long extending leaf stalks and leaves which float on the water. The flower is also above the water level. The genus Nymphaea includes all the water lilies in the world, distributed as they are in every country and continent except New Zealands.
Because colour is often the most important factor in our choice of which cultivar to use; lists are normally divided into groups of similar colours. Other relevant features are size, scent and water depth which suit the various varieties.
Nymphaea capensis is the blue water lily indigenous to South Africa. It has been used as parent in many fine tropical hybrids.
I have read your book with interest and have found it most interesting. I wish I had read it before constructing my pond Gordon Powell, seaview@scottburgh.co.za
I read your book cover to cover last night ., Excellent, this is just what I was looking for. It is hard to find such a comprehensive collection of information in one place. I have been searching the web for about 4 months. Brett Salavoy, Brett.Salovy@za.didata.com
